1 Overview

App Limit Monitor ("the App", "we", "our") is a digital wellbeing application developed for Android that helps users manage their daily screen time by setting custom usage limits on individual applications. The App is operated by an independent developer and is available on the Google Play Store.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user. We are committed to being fully transparent — especially regarding the sensitive permissions the App requires to function.

2 Information We Do Not Collect

App Limit Monitor does not collect, transmit, store on external servers, or share any of the following:

Data Type Collected? Shared?
App usage history & screen time ✓ No ✓ No
Name, email, or personal identifiers ✓ No ✓ No
Location data ✓ No ✓ No
Device identifiers (IMEI, Android ID) ✓ No ✓ No
Master password & security answers ✓ No ✓ No
Photos, files, or media ✓ No ✓ No
Contacts or call logs ✓ No ✓ No

All app usage statistics are read directly from Android's UsageStatsManager API and processed entirely on your device. This data is never written to any remote server, database, or analytics service controlled by us.

3 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data in your device's local storage using Android's Room database and DataStore preferences. This data is never transmitted off your device.

DataStoragePurpose
App time limits (minutes) Room Database Enforce daily usage limits per app
Unlock count per app Room Database Track how often limits have been bypassed
Master password DataStore Preferences Authenticate unlock requests
Security question & answer DataStore Preferences Password recovery option
Uninstall protection toggle DataStore Preferences Persist Device Admin preference

Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data, as no backup copies exist on any server.

4 Permissions & Why We Need Them

The App requests several permissions that Android classifies as sensitive. We explain each one honestly below.

Permission
Reason & How It's Used
Usage Access
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS

Reads how long each app has been open today using Android's UsageStatsManager API. This is the core feature of the App. Data is read locally and never leaves your device.

Display Over Other Apps
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

Enables the blocking screen to appear on top of a restricted app once its daily time limit is reached. Without this, the App cannot enforce limits.

Foreground Service
FOREGROUND_SERVICE

Runs a persistent background service that checks the active foreground app every 500 ms. A permanent notification informs you the service is running, as required by Android.

Boot on Start
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED

Automatically restarts the monitoring service after your device reboots so your limits are always enforced without manual intervention.

Post Notifications
POST_NOTIFICATIONS

Sends a notification when a monitored app's daily limit has been reached. Only used for limit-reached alerts and the required foreground service notification.

Device Administrator
BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN (Optional)

This is an entirely optional feature called "Uninstall Protection." When enabled, it prevents the App from being uninstalled without your Master Password. It does not allow remote management, data wiping, or any access to your personal files. You can revoke this permission at any time via Settings → Security → Device Administrators.

Internet
INTERNET

Required solely for Google AdMob to load and display advertisements. No app usage data or personal information is transmitted via this connection.

5 Advertising — Google AdMob

App Limit Monitor is free and supported by ads provided by Google AdMob (com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads). The App displays the following ad formats:

Google AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and other signals to serve personalised or contextual ads. This is governed entirely by Google's own privacy policy. We have no access to this data.

6 Children's Privacy

App Limit Monitor is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has used this App in a way that raises privacy concerns, please contact us using the details in Section 9.

Note: While the App may be used by parents to set screen time limits on a shared family device, the App itself does not create profiles or collect data about any individual user.

7 Data Security

Because all sensitive data (master password, security answers, app limits) is stored exclusively in Android's local DataStore and Room database on your device, it is protected by your device's built-in security — including screen lock, file-system encryption, and app sandboxing enforced by Android.

We strongly recommend setting a strong screen lock and keeping your Android OS up to date to protect your locally stored settings.

8 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and publish the new policy at the same URL. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
